The valley has several points of view, so you require an hired car to move from place to place. We have been in summer (august) , and we were lucky because it was very sunny during our daily excursion. They told us it was always raining before our arrival, and also the day we left. Weather is not predictable, and... More

Absolutely beautiful! A must see. We were there end of august which is supposedly not the best season as the rice is grown but then it has wonderful shades of green and yellow! And bonus, it's the low season so very few tourists. PS: Don't miss Jianshui on the way back to Kunming

Stay at least two days and don't be sad if it rains: weather changes frequently. Stay near Pugao Laozhai to sleep (Timeless Hostel is the best), where there are few tourists and you can hike thought "mushrooms village". Don't use just minivan: hike! It's the best way to understand the area, meet the people and walk in the terrace.

The view from the top is stunning. Sunset is the best time to visit. There are 2 platforms for this terrace. Both of them are nice. I better like the upper one. The lower one is close to the terrace but you need to walk down the steps for 20 mins.

I went there during low season (June). The cons was that the terraces weren't wet, but they were still beautiful. The pro was that I was the only turist around! So I walked through the trails in the rice terraces and it was super quiet, I passed through villages and saw women dressing with different clothes, heard different dialects... you... More

Be it during sunset, sunrise or during the day, you'll be astonished by the size & the beauty of these terraces. This part of our trip in Yunnan was the one we prefered. We will never forget these moments where we could quietly enjoy the views

During a year, the best time to visit Yuanyang is from October to May of the nexy year. The local minorities only leave the paddy fields empty after the harvest. And there is much more water in fields, thus you can take photos with more layers or colors. Also you can see the wanderful reflection of colorful cloulds and blue... More
