Nugget Point was well worth the visit. The walk to the lighthouse along the pathway has stunning views out over the ocean. Down at sea level you could watch the fur seal pups cavorting in the water and in the rockpools. If you are near to Nugget Point - make a detour - you will not be disappointed

Not worthwhile Catlins SSR drive to be honest !!! It's not that scenic to be honest .. anywhere else you can get that scenery !! To be honest, a greater scenery is the drive. From Dunedin to Queenstown via Omarau/ Alexandra that's s beautiful drive of almost 4 hours

This requires a bit more than a 20km detour from the main road but it’s well worth it. From the car park it’s a short walk along a gravel path along the ridge line right up to the lighthouse. The view from there is just fabulous with the rocky nuggets just out from the coast. The nuggets host colonies of... More

Although it is a bit rough to get there with gravel road for a number of kilometres it is worth it. The walk is just under 2klms return and scenic all the way along. The interpretive signs are good and we saw New Zealand fur seals on the rocks below. The lighthouse and 'nuggets' are a beautiful site to see.

After a short walk up the hills we enjoyed the great view of Nugget Point. Stunning landscape - reminds of Pirates of the Carribean!

At the end of the gravel track there are car parks for either Roaring Bay or the Nugget Point lighthouse. The Bay is stony, hence the name as the waves drag the pebbles back. We didn't see any penguins but it is a nice walk. The walk to the lighthouse is not strenuous but in places there is a steep... More

The gravel road to nugget point was slightly hair raising at points, although it looks like a lot of road works are happening to widen the road. The drive around the coastline is pretty and nugget point itself is worth the short walk to the lookout/lighthouse. About 1km from the carpark it is definitely worth getting out and stretching the... A pleasant walk with amazing views. You must come here if you are travelling from Invercargill to Dunedin via the Scenic southern drive. You turn off the route for a 20 minute drive one way, allow an hour for the detour. There are toilets available at the Carpark.

A short walk with beautiful views of coast and lighthouse all the way. Magnificent view from the lighthouse along the coast and rocky isles
