The area
Neighbourhood: Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

shopping and eating areas in Tokyo
Dec 2019
this place is famous for tourists to come for eating and shopping street. you can find everything from here. it like as china town of Tokyo. but the price of goods, you need to check. some times it is not cheapest price you can get it, but if you don't mind, it is ok. if you like shopping and eating, i suggest to stay here but if you stay other areas, you need to spare time for 3-5 hours to walk around.

Bustling, vibrant shopping experience
Mar 2020
This bustling street is jam-packed with everything you could need: clothes, electronics, food, clothes, trinkets, whatever you're looking for. There are vendors calling out their wares, bigger stores, all sorts of shops. A lot of things are knocked-off or you can negotiate.

A bit of everything

This reminds me of an east end type market with everything on sale including knock off brands, second hand kimonos and real mink coats. Great if you line to find a bargain or things that have been looked down on for years. Worth a ten minute stroll.

Small Decent Street for Shopping
Feb 2020 • Friends
Good Place for food like Unagi Rice bowl and Don bowls. Lots of shops that sell souvenirs and jackets. Good for a quick shopping for items and have a sense of vibes of Japan Tokyo.

Nearest MRT station at UENo.

Unato Unagi Rice Restaurant and Ichiran Ramen is a must TRY!

Visited the place twice during our stay in Tokyo and it's a different experience each time. Plenty of eats from the traditional to the not so traditional. Memorable ones would be a corner takoyaki shop which was literally swamp with patrons the two times I was there and at different times of the day. Another one would be the friendly shawarma vendor who entertained every diner and visitor at his stand. And surprisingly, his wife is from our home country. Plenty of small mom and pop store in the area, we even ended up on a 2 floor small Y99 store manned by a couple of sisters in a space that you have to at times move sideways. Had an enjoyable time observing the wet and dry area as a gracious vendor agreed to a lower price offered by an old lady. Small Taito claw game arcade popular with Japanese kids and with my kids are one of the popular places there. There are still shops carrying American military goods as the name Ameyoko imply was a popular hub for US servicemen after the war where American and other blackmarket goods were traded. Lastly, one would not want to miss if I'm not mistaken the only Japanese swords and antique shop there. It's an old shop judging from the furnishing and managed by an elderly proprietor. Well the place was a treat for us first time visitors but a return visit may yield even more surprises.

Better value for shopping
Mar 2019 • Friends
Highly recommend to shop here because the price is much cheaper. I found that many cosmetic items are of better value and you also have more choices.
