This is a lovely 4 mile round trip from West Kirby. Good footwear recommended, although we did see people walking barefoot. Definitely check the tide times before setting off! The island is quiet and pretty (and windy) with plenty of wildflowers, birds and even seals.

We walked from the slipway by the sailing centre in West Kirby (near morrisons). It took 40 minutes at a easy pace.Wear hiking boots or wellies as it can be muddy and wet ,also you don,t want to slip on the rocks as you clamber on to Hilbre Island, also a wind/water proof jacket would be helpful .The weather can get... I've visited West Kirby a number of times but never taken the walk over to the Island. It probably helped that it was a sunny day and underfoot wasn't too soggy (make sure you're prepared with the correct footwear) We didn't walk to fast and were able to fill over 3 hours walking, visiting the Telegraph room, having a coffee... Would check tides before you go and follow the recommended route from the slipway at West Kirby. It's a lovely walk to Little Eye, Middle Eye and then to Hilbre Island. Wear wellies and pack plenty of water. You can usually see seals bobbing around in the water or 'sunbathing' on the sandbanks! There is an old lifeboat station which... More

Walked tut to Hilbre yesterday and did a couple of circuits of the marina and clocked up about 8 miles in total. Just a wonderful day with lovely weather made this walk a delight. We stopped at Morrisons before to pick up a picnic and then walked out stopping at the three islands in turn before finishing with the picnic... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. had walking boots and only paddled in very small amount of water. Had loats of time so a relaxing walk and picnic. Took 1 hr to Hilbre, had lunch, a wander and then walked back. Saw seals in the sea and lots of birdlife. A new experience. As others say, was windy but we had... More

Enjoyed the day however we did get very wet and dirty trainers and jeans would of been a better idea to wear wellies. The walk is quite far but doable however once on the island there is nothing there to do so our daughter wasn't very impressed. On the website it said there are toilets on the island however we... We set out last Saturday at low tide and walked across the sands to this lovely little island. Upon reaching middle eye the seals could be clearly seen basking on a sandbank in the Dee estuary, there were well over a hundred. Upon reaching the main island, you are met with some great eroded sandstone edges. A small stroll along... More
