One of the best hikes in the park. Every time you reach a new plateau the scenery changes and it's more outstanding than the last view. We did the hike slowly so we could enjoy each amazing view. Took about 2.5 hours Keep your eyes open for little side trails that lead to amazing cliff views.

On our first day at Acadia National Park, my husband and I took the free park shuttle bus from the Hull's Cove Visitors Center to Sand Beach. We were looking for the Ocean Path Trail (easy) but somehow ended up on the Great Head Trail (we're directionally challenged)! We finally noticed the patches of blue paint on trees and followed... Great Head Trail can be accessed by Sands Beach. The trail is moderate, and offers scenic views of the Beehive, Gorham Mountain, and a few islands off the coast. Bring water and maybe a snack, and don't rush to finish the trail. There are many areas to stop and enjoy the scenery!

We really enjoyed this hike - loved climbing on the rocks a bit to get to the top - the ocean views were well worth the hike - we went fairly early in the morning so it was nice and quiet!

I had just finished the Beehive hike and was looking for another nearby hike but nothing too long since it was late and I was on a bus schedule. I thought the Great Head trail would be more of a nature walk rather than a hike. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a little more difficult than expected, there... More

This hike was the second of the day; a trail found off of Sand Beach. A steep rock scramble made me wish I hadn't attempted it as I was fretting how the heck I was going to get down, but my fears were quickly abated. Once on more level land, this was a great hike; when we got to the... More

This is a moderate hike (easier than Beehive but not a stroll so do wear sneakers) and most of it is pretty easy except for a few steep rocky areas. You get amazing coastal views of the cliffs and water and views of Sandy Beach. Lovely hike though I didn't find it as "fun" as Beehive or Bubble Rock. Very... More

This trail is fantastic hike with some extraordinary views. There are outlets to the water with the shore, and some beautiful views off cliffs of the surrounding islands. There's a slightly more difficult section just east of sandy shore which I would avoid if you aren't steady on your feet.

We started on sand beach, climbed the stairs and had a picnic on an old stone mill overlooking the beach. Then hiked the trail. It is rough in spots, but views are worth it. Saw Sand Beach and Otter Cliff from the top.
