Description:

The National Park Service has renovated and refurnished the Gifford farmhouse as a cultural demonstration site to interpret the early Mormon settlement of the Fruita valley. The house depicts the typical spartan nature of rural Utah farm homes of the early 1900's. In addition to the farmhouse, the Gifford homestead includes a barn, smokehouse, garden, pasture, and rock walls.

This is a must visit if you are in Capitol Reef and are at all interested in pioneer history. This place was lived in by one of the earliest Mormon families to settle in this area and you can easily imagine what life was like for them by reading the information and looking at the artefacts; and as a big... Not much to look at but history is all through this fertile valley. The drive to the museum is beautiful with so many fruit trees. The reward at the end is a special treat - pies! Pick up one per person. They may single serve but they are actually two very large servings. Leftovers!

This old home was a pleasant surprise. It is the centerpiece of a postcard-worthy setting, and now houses a small bakery and gift shop. We walked in to the smell of pies and cinnamon rolls, all of which looked and smelled delicious. They also serve ice cream if you want a little to go with your pie.

The cinnamon rolls are amazing - and the pies aren't too shabby either! Both are generous portions and plenty sweet. Gifford House sells some other foodstuffs as well as Pioneer style home goods, it was nice to look around but honestly we came specifically for the desserts we heard so much about and they did not disappoint:) I visited on... Small home, I suppose I expected more history? Most rooms dedicated to retail with one small room for the actual museum.

Of course, had to try the pie & the cinnamon rolls. Pie was good though a little too sweet for me. Revenue earned goes back to the park.

My husband and I are on day 2 of our honeymoon. We woke up to a horrible continental breakfast at the Day's Inn in Torrey, for being near a hiking town you'd think the breakfast would be fulfilling, it wasn't. We started off our road trip to Moab by driving through Capitol Reef to explore, our first stop was Gifford's... More

We stopped on our way out for homemade peach pie and ice cream. Our family of four devoured it!! Lovely little place to enjoy some delicious dessert and take in beautiful scenery.
