My wife and I recently visited Crater Lake and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the water and the surrounding crater walls. We took several hours to drive around the lake on the rim road and stop at the multiple observation points. Each point offers...More

If you really want to get well acquainted with the Lake, you must take the boat tour offered by the Park Service. It traverses the circumference of the Lake, including Wizard Island, and features an excellent commentary by a Park Ranger. The only negative is...More

The lake is so wonderful. a little over 2 hours from our home. I am embarrassed that we don't go more often. We drove up Hwy. 58 and down Hwy. 97 to the lake. And went back through Roseburg on Hwy. 138. 138 is a...More

Driving around Crater Lake is gorgeous. The views from each viewpoint are stunning. The lake is spectacular blue and the reflection of the crater rim in the water is breathtaking.

Such a beautiful, breath taking place. Pictures do not do it justice. Great drive to the lake, easy free parking, paved walkways, gift shop and eating area. The lake itself is the bluest blue you will ever see. Highly recommend seeing once in a person's...More

Crater Lake is a long way from anything, and I wondered whether it was worth the trip. But I almost gasped when I saw the Lake from the first overlook, as this is a place that is both beautiful and unique in its beauty as...More

Symmetrical, and deep blue, gorgeous at sun rise and there are look outs for sunset. Nice short hikes around the rim. Trail is wide enough but sheer at lakeside which can make your heart beat a little faster.

The road from the north to the lake was heartbreaking. Hundreds of trees destroyed by fire. BUT after we got by that the forest was beautiful. Stopped at a tourist view stop an saw the lake. Outstanding, colors were all kind of blue shades. Road...More

The coastal drive and Crater Lake were our Oregon favorites. You have to see the blue in the water to believe it! Many great view spots as you circle the lake. Many photo ops!

Crater lake might seem like it’s out-of-the-way but it is worth it! The air was slightly smoky which made it kind of hazy over the lake for our visit – but this did not diminish the fascinating glory of this natural wonder. Take the time...More

Absolutely. The access roads are wide and are serviced very well when there is snow. I think at that time of year, you will have a very low chance of any snow.

Yes. I personally find it the better view and offers a lot more. Check for reservations at the lodge. Take the time to hike a little at some of the turnouts. Enjoy!

We were up there a month ago, so there were no fires at that time near Crater Lake. I would look at the Crater Lake Webcams just prior to your trip and determine if it is worth it. You could also try calling the ranger... More
