The first mile of the hike is the same trail the horses use so it smells pretty bad and you are having to watch your step for horse poop. But you will have some amazing views of a lake! You'll be in the woods for...More

As many have said, this trail is definitely more about the finish. The lake is breathtaking in color and surroundings! The trail is a little over 6 miles one way (13.5 round trip) and most of that is in the forest. The first mile or...More

Cracker lake itself is stunning- a milky turquoise lake, unlike anything I have ever seen. It is worth the hike in, and you do not need to be a seasoned hiker to do this one. Yes, it is long (longer than the sign at the...More

The first part of the trail is shared with horseback riders and can be a bit odoriferous with horse droppings! It ascends slowly in a valley. Spend time at this lovely cold lake but watch out for wildlife.

Not for everyone due to length, but well worth the effort. The lake itself is stunning! Saw a huge grizzly across the lake, which was truly awe-inspiring. We were surprised to see many hikers completely without water or other supplies. (If you want to experience...More

Ive been to over 30 national parks and this is one of the most beautiful lakes we have in the lower 48! Problem for most people is that its a 13 mile round trip day hike. Or if money is no object to you then...More

Lovely walk, moderately difficult - but the spring flowers in June and the beauty of the lake at the end made it well worth while. I went early to avoid others, and was rewarded with a moose en route - but also the lake to...More

This was one of the most rewarding day hikes in memory. It was listed as 6 miles which is a good hike for us. We failed to register that this was one way. We needed to double the distance in order to get back. The...More
