Word of mouth has that the more remote, harder to get to and therefore less crowded North Rim offers a more authentic Canyon experience and better views. However, there is no bus service on this rim and it is closed during the winter.

It is just a giant hole. Yeah that would be the understatement of the next 3 million years. The Grand Canyon is just an amazing sight to see. The North Rim area had far less tourists then the south rim and had some unique amazing...More

It's hard to imagine how big the Grand Canyon is until you see it in person. No photo or video can really do it justice so if you get a chance, I'd recommend seeing it with you own eyes :) Tip: We got there are...More

Oh what a trip we arrived around 9:00 am. There was nothing but a big layer of fog over the canyon!! We were all so disappointed. But we started walking and looking around. Around 1:30 the fog lifted and the beauty could be seen. Trip...More

I stopped at a Highway 89 lookout just south of Page, Arizona that provided an absolutely stunning view of the Grand Canyon. This is an incredible natural wonder that everyone should see if they have the opportunity. There were some Aboriginal folks selling their sourvenirs...More

The "North Rim" is only open from mid-May through mid-October. The elevation is higher (over 8000') so it is cooler than the south rim. We recently visited for the first time and found it to be less congested and touristy than the south side. We...More

The North rim has beautiful views and is less crowded than the south rim. It is a good place for backwoods camping and hardcore hiking.

The north rim opens depending on weather and snow conditions in the spring, usually late May to early June. I suspect the same is true in reverse in the late fall. Check the National Park website for specific dates.
