A nice beginner's hike on an easy to follow trail. I hiked it counter-clockwise and was momentarily confused when I got to the springs and a sign pointed back to Frijole Ranch in the direction I just came from. I continued on and only noticed...More

The walk was serene and a nice introduction to New Mexico flora. The gullies were dry and that was a disappointment but we saw the spring. The frijoles ranch was closed but we saw the spring. The path was level and accessible for nearly anyone.

The hike up to Smith Spring is a little tough when it is warm out. It is only about a mile up there, but it can be very hot out on the desert. It follows along a rugged canyon that is probably formed from the...More

The counterclockwise hike can be hot with no shelter from the sun, then cooled by winds, then incredibly refreshing at the springs. And the vegetation changes with the proximity to water and amount of exposure to sun. I found it moderately challenging, especially the first...More

This was a hike we did the day after we had hiked Guadalupe Peak and wanted something less strenuous. The Smith Spring Trail fit the bill perfectly. There are great views, but the hike itself is moderate, rather than strenuous. We started at the Frijole...More

Smith Spring is an easy to moderate 2.3 mile (3.7k) loop trail that begins at the interesting Frijole Ranch which is a short drive north on Hwy 62/180 from the Park’s main visitor center and offers ample parking, picnic facilities and restrooms at the trailhead....More

This is a quick walk/hike (about 1.5 hours minimum) that takes you into a notch in the Guadalupe Mountains where a tree-shaded spring is pouring down through pools. It can be blazing hot under the sun getting to the spring, but once there I agree...More

We were on a strict time crunch and we decided to stop here instead of the other many attractions around so when we started off the hike, we were getting discouraged as it was long and uneventful in the blazing heat. However, after what seemed...More
