The short walk to get to this tube and the walk through and back to your vehicle is like walking through a jungle. I love it! Its a lil steep for the elderly but def worth it! The lava tube has lights in it but...More

Lava tubes are intriguing. Worth a stop to look, but bring a flashlight. Tube was undergoing maintenance which meant 1) could only go part way; and 2) lighting was out. It's a short visit. Takes more time to walk down to it (more than 5...More

Suggest to experience a lava tube but wouldn't plan another. Once is enough because you don't get to see much to appreciate that's it's a tube.

This is extremely interesting. How often will you be able to walk through a lava tube. Very cool when you consider that hot lava flowed through the tube hundreds of years ago. The walk down was like you were walking through Jurassic Park minus the...More

Won't need long here, it was great to visit though. Definitely stop and have a look if you in the national park. Very incredible site to see the size the lava was flowing through. They are like circle caves and the walls and floor are...More

There is a fair amount of walking on a trail from the parking lot to the lava tube. A flight of narrow stone steps with a railing leads down into the tube. There is lighting inside, but it is best to wait a few minutes...More

There is limited parking on Crater Rim Drive for Thurston Lava Tube and usually plenty of tour buses at the entrance. A lovely walk through the fern forest down a steeply sloping path takes you to the entrance of the massive tunnel that was formed...More

We were able to walk down a long path and walk through the Nahuku lava tube. Beautiful, but bring a flashlight and proper shoes as it is a good hike and uneven walkway. They we're fixing the lights for future guests while we were there....More

The tube is real close to Kilauea and the kava flies down to the ocean. You should see Kilauea during day and night.
