Just off the road. Lots of parking. Great photo opportunity. Trail starts at the base. Lots of people seem to take the trail after taking photos from various angles to get the best image of Skull Rock. Worth a stop

The rock formations in the park, in general, are really amazing. This one is interesting and right along the road, so very easy to see.

After landing at LAX, my wife and I began our epic tour of five national parks located in CA. The first was Joshua Tree. It's about a 2 hour drive from the airport and in that time, you're on another planet. The landscape is wild...More

We came in May and it was hot! We didnt have many people when we went. We parked visited Skull rock, but also did the hike behind it. We struggled to keep the trail, ended up at the campground...but just back tracked. Two young kiddos...More

Thankful this was a quick, roadside stop. Everyone talks about this place, so we went and were a little disappointed. It was super busy and crowded, and honestly- the surrounding rocks were cooler, in my opinion. The most entertaining part of the rock for me...More

Place can be hotter than the sun! But worth a visit. Bring water and food in your car. Some amazing views and great if you like desert landscape/creatures. There was signs warning you of Bees/Wasps so be careful of you have small children. Saying that...More

Although Skull Rock is the main attraction, do not miss the beautiful rock formations and landscapes that surround this attraction. Not only is this popular during the daytime, but also is a major attraction for night photographers. To the best of my knowledge, there is...More

Driving through and stopping at various rock clusters was a day well spent. My kids lived the rock scrambling opportunities these places offered. Skull rock did look like a skull so it did not disappoint.

This place is right on the side of the road so it's an easy stop. you don't even need to hike to get to the actual Skull Rock. It "resembles" a skull but I honestly have seen others that were much better. Be prepared to...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
I visited Arches National Park in Utah in February this year on Presidents day. We drove right into the park off of the main highway. My friend who was driving commented that he never drove into the park entrance without being slowed significantly by a line of cars ahead of him. I am wondering what types of crowds to expect and how it it will impact us both driving around and hiking. We will have this experience (delayed by more cars than usual) when driving to Joshua Tree the second weekend in May (Mother's weekend)? Planning to stay in Twentynine Palms. Time frames for doing things, getting places would be helpful. .Thanks in advance for input, suggestions, recommendations.

It isn't so crowded at the Cottonwood Spring entrance. We went Feb 16, 2017, and it wasn't very crowded. I'm sure it would be busier on a holiday.
