Facinating all day Excursion

The amount of ash thrown out of the Katmai and Novarupta eruptions in 1912 is hard to fathom - it extends for many miles and is easily hundreds of feet thick. The trip on a 4-WD bus takes all day, and includes an optional hike down to the river from an overlook. Wildlife was abundant on the bus trip and... More

I decided to go to the Valley of 10,000 Smokes as a day trip from Brooks Lodge at a cost of $96 (with lunch or $84 without lunch). I went on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016. I knew in advance that there was an optional 3 mile hike down into the Valley that was part of this tour. I knew that... More

This day tour was a great experience - it gets you away from the day crowds at Brooks Camp, and a ranger provides even more interesting information about Katmai NP on the bus ride, during catered lunch, and the (moderately strenuous) hike down to the valley. I didn't realize that none of the fissures were still active, but I guess... More

My husband and I enjoyed a flight seeing tour while on a fishing trip to Brooks Falls.. We have visited Brooks Falls and fished on surrounding rivers but never visited Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.. Apparently a clear day is a rarity and we hit it just right.. The crater lake was beautiful, very interesting flight..

This day trip is definitely worth taking if you have time. it's a short bus ride/drive, and about 2 hour round trip walk. The sights are so breathtaking, and the learning center is really well presented.

Escaped for a weekend with a girlfriend and we cannot wait to start planning our next stay. Will include hiking and camping at the Valley. Had a great tour of the area and a nice hike with a ranger. What an awesome place. The views are unbeatable and the geological significance is unimaginable. Can't wait for next time

We stayed at Brooks Lodge for two nights. We did this day trip with a park ranger. The bus ride out was fun with river crossings and wildlife. We saw a lynx along the road. The hike into the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes was pretty. We enjoyed the side trail to the confluence. That was a beautiful spot. The... More

This is almost an all day trip but well worth it. Able to get some hiking in but only for a couple of hours. Would have liked to spend more time.

This valley is the reason Katmai NP exists and the reason you should visit! The day trip to the valley was well worth the cost. I can't wait to return for a backpacking trip.

We did the Valley of 10,000 Smokes tour on June 29, 2016 during our 3 day visit to Brooks Lodge. It starts with a bus ride that was over an hour long, with stops for photo opportunities of the valley and mountain ranges along the way. We were very fortunate that we had a beautiful sunny day and you could... More
