Though most places rate this hike as "moderate", its pretty tough to do with kids 5 and under (and almost impossible to do with a stroller). First, the hiking trail is exposed to about 200 feet drops at several stretches. Second, the final leg of...More

Could have been better weather (50's and very windy). Trail is easy to find with large parking area. Some areas are a little close to comfort to 3,000 foot drops but just walk careful. I am Not sure I would feel comfortable with small children...More

This is a must see in Lassen. We were there with snow on the trail but not so much to make it difficult to pass. Beautiful views along the trail that culminates in the pictured walkways through the sulfur vents.

We loved this moderate hike to the thermal area. It felt like a mini-Yellowstone. Bring your camera, but be careful not to get the lens too close to the steam.

A tricky hike but well worth the effort. Spectacular scenery culminating in a sulphurous hell hole of bubbling mud steaming vents and colorful chemicals. Poor old Bumpass who lost a leg after falling through the crust - they didn't have wooden walkways in those days!

The hike is great. Slow grade upwards & then down to Bumpass Hell. Oozing, bubbling mass of sulfurous goo. Smelly & warm! Fine mist fell to help with the heat generated by the ooze. Boardwalk needs some screws screwed back down into the 2x6 wood...More

The three mile round trip hike from the parking lot to Bumpass Hell is beautiful. The trailing a little dusty. Wear layers it was 45F and a cold wind when we started. This is a popular trail and worth the visit.

Despite what the reviews, or what the National Park Service indicates on its signs. This is NOT a moderate hike, it was strenuous, extremely rocky and treacherous. I was accompanied by someone who just recently hiked part of the Pacific Coast Trail, and they said...More

Very well maintained hiking trail going to the Bumpass Hell attraction with many scenic spots along the way. It's 1.5 miles one way to the sulfur springs but worth the hike to see some very interesting ponds, mud holes, rocks, etc.

No. Bring a carrier if you have a baby / toddler. Trail may be challenging for young kids. But definitely worth it!

Not advisable to take a stroller on this hike. Trail is rocky, exposed to about 200 feet drops on several stretches and the last leg of the trail has smooth powdery and hence slippery sand and is a steep downhill to the... More
