As flatlanders, we never intended to hike the entire trail. But, we let our curiousity guide us up and around a bit. Because it was the beginning of May and there was still snow here and there down by the trailhead, not many folks were around and the stream that was flowing just beyond the parking lot couldn't have been... Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the destinations we always bring out of state visitors to. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and you can spend as little or as much time in the park as you want. You can stay in the car and just drive, our you can get out at designated parking places to explore, snap some... More

Headed up through Black Hawk and rode through the Mountains and headed to Estes Park, Co. to see the trees changing and headed to Loveland Co. What an awesome view to see the entire drive.

This is a long and high altitude hike. We went 4 miles and 4 hours later to the hitching posts up above the tree line on the tundra. We were extremely lucky had a beautiful sunny day the whole time and the scenery from 11,680 feet was something to behold. Take plenty of water and snacks and have good hiking... More

A great wild place on the front range. Not an easy feat due mostly to the elements. Plan very carefully. Do some training. Don't be surprised by not making it to the summit.

I finished the hike up to Chasm lake and ran back down. It took me nearly 3 1/2 hours to hike to the top and about 1 hour 1/2 to run down. It is a strenuous climb and I would advise to be in good shape to attempt this hike. Wonderful day. As always, watch the weather because it can... More

For the occasional hiker it's worth waiting until mid-July to avoid snow and ice on the last 1.5 mile stretch of the trail. And sharing the trail during peak season with other hikers can reduce the risk of getting off trail. Nonetheless it's important to study the route in advance, especially starting at the Keyhole so you're familiar with the... More

It was not an easy walk to Chasm Lake. We did Mills Lake in the morning and we were so tired when we came back from there. We started our hike to Mills Lake at 7am and took us 5 hours round-trip. And in the afternoon we drove to Longs Peak trailhead to start our hike to Chasm Lake. We... More

We have hiked Longs Peak twice via the Keyhole route - the first time in early June, when we could not make the summit because of ice (and lack of preparation for an ice climb!) - and the second time in late July 2016, when the route was clear of snow. The first stretch of the hike to the Keyhole... More
