There is a shuttle that will take you to many stops along the Generals Highway, but I recommend driving yourself because there are many smaller stops that you might miss if taking the shuttle. This was a gorgeous drive through the forest and it took...More

The road is in decent shape and comfortable to drive. Stop often to take in the view, smell the forest, listen to the birds. This is practically the only way to get to the giants. You want to go, so go.

This is a curvy road that takes about 2-3 hours to travel depending on your stopping at various attractions in the park. We were in the park for about 9 hours and all 9 hours were spent on stops along the way. We found that...More

The road runs all the way through Sequoia NP. It's twisty with lots of curves, but you can't beat the beauty along every single inch of it.

The road is in good shape and well maintained, but don't expect to make good time on it. There is about a ten-mile stretch on the sound end that is full of hair-pin curves rated at 10-15 mph. There are several turnoffs for slower drivers...More

We didn't go all the way to Kings Canyon, but the way to Sherman Tree the views are to die for. Our first day there was kinda crappy until we got to the forest. But next time we're going to take the whole drive.

Sequoia National Park So difficult to describe Our road trip in California on Hwy 101 took us through the California Redwood forests, we marveled at the density of trees and how the exact location near the ocean with fog made for such magnificent groves of...More

Planning to visit the area in May 2017. Wondering if it's possible to drive the General Highway and see the major "sights" in one day. I don't plan to do any extensive hiking but would like to see Grant Grove, Giant Forest Museum, Sherman Tree, Tunnel Log - maybe Moro Rock. Seems like one day may not be enough, but two days seems too much! Suggestions? Also looking for advice about how to make this drive a loop. Starting in Three Rivers, CA- thought we'd get to the north side of Generals Highway using local roads and then work our way down the highway back to Three Rivers.

While you want to do the trip quickly, please be aware that the hairpin turns on the drive to the park are very dangerous and many people drive like maniacs on those turns, so be aware of that. It might be worth taking more... More
