Steep climb and end but the views are worth it!

One of the better hikes in Shenandoah National Park. Last 1/4 mile requires climbing on rocks, so if you’re not in shape this trail route may not be for you.

This a favorite hike for the family and especially the kids. Lots of rock scrambling. We always fit this into our agenda when visiting the park. Also, you would be wise to obey the no pets policy. My dog is an excellent climber and had to be pulled up or carried on 2-3 areas.

Our visit was during a few days of on and off rain. The hike map suggests not doing in wet conditions but we went anyways. There are two hike options one a rocky gradual climb on a path and the other is scaling over rocks and cliffs. We chose the rock scramble which was our first ever and I must... More

The overlook was beautiful as the day was clear. This was just one of many places we parked the car and just walked.

The Bearfence Mountain rock scramble trail is only 1-mile long but it is challenging, once you reach the top the views are beautiful and worth the climb! Plus it's really fun! You can choose to go back thru the rock scramble in the same way that you came but I don't recommend it because there is traffic of people in... More

A little challenging, you do have to climb up rocks, but the trail is well marked with the blue paint swatches and the climbing nooks can be found relatively easily. The views are insane! It's a quick up and back, though the climbing takes time. Did this with my 13 year old, she was a pro!

The hike was well worth it. Some scrambling over boulders and a little climbing. We completes the hike with a 12 and 14 year old. Roughly a 1.8 mile loop. Can't wait to go back in the fall!

We were not impressed by the view any the end. There are two ways up. One is a rock scramble and the other is a walkable path. When we got to the lookout I guess we were expecting more. We had been to Upper Hawksbill and Mary's Rock, both with better views.

We took a short detour through Shenandoah National Park on our way home to spend the night, enjoy the cooler temps, hike a fun trail and geocache. I picked this area because it was near the cabin that we were staying in and researched pictures online to see if we could manage the rock scramble portion of the trail -... More
