My family of 5 (14,12,12) hiked 9 miles (4.5 each way) of the narrows. We started rather early (around 9:00 am) to avoid the masses. What an amazing family outing. Definitely on our top 5 . The water was cool but not as cold as...More

My wife and I did a 2hr hike up the narrows July 2017. The first few steps you start to say, why did I get into this. It takes about 20 minutes for your toes to go numb and then the water starts to feel...More

If you only want to do one trail in Zion, this is it! It's so much fun! we went in late June and the temperature is 116! However, it's really cool and nice in the trail area. You will get wet, you'll probably fall, you'll...More

Visited in June on a Wednesday. Got the first shuttle out @ 6:00am from the visitors center. Arrived in line @ 5:40am, 30 people already in front of us waiting in line. By 6:00am there were about 100 people behind us. Got on the first...More

What an experience! Beautiful hike through the Virgin River inside the canyon. It's not easy, and I would not recommend doing it without the water hiking boots and socks as well as a walking stick. Even with those it can be tricky navigating the rocks...More

The boys and I did the overnight top-down hike through the Narrows. It was a really hard hike, 16 miles through the water and rocks. Having said that, it was one of the most amazing places I have ever been. If you are anywhere near...More

The Narrows was an amazing experience for our group because we had the right gear. We got shoes, socks and walking sticks at Zion Outfitters. Best decision we made on the trip.

This was the best hike of the vacation. The soaring canyons are gorgeous and although we got started mid-day in brutal heat, 105 in the shade, we were rarely hot because we were in and out of the river. Don't be deterred by taking the...More

Thinking of going to Zion this weekend, but concerned with temperatures. Can you do any hikes after mid morning. Have done Angels and the Narrows before, but in November. Thanks

The earlier the better but much of the Narrows walk is shaded do this is one of the better walks, in my opinion, if the temperatures are high.
We plan to hike the Narrows bottom up on or around 6/12. We tentatively plan to go all the way to Big Springs and possibly go up Orderville as well. We hope to bring two grandparents who may not enjoy the water if it gets very deep (waist-chest-swim). Can anyone give me an idea as to the current water levels, and how far our entire group may be able to go before we reach these higher water levels?

In addition to Zamigaos's answer, water levels can change quickly due to the weather. So if there's been rain recently water levels can be deeper and a little faster, esp in the narrower spots. I wouldn't set a goal of... More
Has anyone hiked The Narrows in early October (the first week)? Is the water so cold you'd need a wetsuit?

I was there late September. The water was cold but bearable. It only felt cold the first time you went in. After that, you won't notice. However, as Kayla mentioned, water shoes and neoprene socks will help. Don't wear... More
