Sandy and good views

Good views and a good hike with my kids. Sandy and rough going in some spots. Watch for horses and droppings.

We did Sand Bench Loop, accessing it from the Patriarch Bus Stop in late December ( 2 wks before a major rockfall). No horses or horse waste on the trails which were icy and in parts muddy. Limited numbers of other hikers on the trail. Invest in some traction devices and hiking poles for safer winter hiking in snowy and... More

We did our Christmas day hike here in the snow. Great because it was accessible even with the snow/ice on other trails and so beautiful. Saw many mule deer near the river and breathtaking views.

If you are thinking you will hike this trail you will be hiking in a ton of horse poop. This is the only trail the horses are allowed on so their many tours a day utilize it. It is a great very of the patriarchs but you have to be on horseback on this trail.

The Sand Bench Trail is one of Zion's quietest, least travailed trails. Although the full loop can be quite lengthy and time consuming, a shortened version of it is a marvelous hike. We started from the Court of the Patriarchs and hiked along the river to the Zion Lodge. This is a great morning hike as the sun strikes the... More

This is loop trail is shared with horses from March to October. It goes along the edge of Virgin River, in between Canyon Drive and the Court of the Patriarchs. We encountered no other hikers and enjoyed getting right next to the Patriarchs.

I ran this trail from the lodge and absolutely loved it. It had some unexpected elevation which added some kick. The views at sunset are stunning and I came across a herd of elk as well as some wild turkeys. Trails are a mix between house trails (watch your ankles), poured concrete on the climbs, and sand. I ran it... More

This is actually a horse trail used by a company that takes guests on 3 hour trail rides. We encountered 2 groups during our hike. The trail leaders were really nice. We hiked the entire loop & got praised for our tenacity. The trail is all sand, pretty deep in many places, plus it was a hot day. You get... More

This is a little off the beaten track trail. Used by horses so watch your step. It is not paved and winds through the brush and such. Numerous deer were seen very close up. Leave them alone. Just look, take a picture, and move along. Very easy hiking.

Although this hike was quite long and had a lot of elevation change, it was quite doable for us amateur hikers. I am very afraid of heights and was surprised to find myself up that high without panic. The view was unbelievable and worth every step.
