Stayed in a small boutique hotel in Madridejos. Charming little town, very different from the usual tourist haunts. Not many non Spanish in the town but very friendly. A smattering of Spanish would help. The walk up to the windmills is quite challenging if over 50 years. When we went it was a weekend and they had stopped cars going up but there was a bus which took people up to the top. Didn’t realize this so walked. The windmills have been preserved very well and the view from the top of the hill is amazing. Also a castle for people to see. We went on our way to see the crocus festival which happens each October for the saffron which is collected from the middle of the crocus. This is in Consuegra, the next town and also a delight to visit.
