Visited the Unicoi Crest on the Cherohala Skyway (at the TN/NC border) on October 29, 2016 and attended a star party sponsored by the Smokey Mountain Astronomy Society. There is very little light pollution there, which helps the views of the night sky. Had the privilege of seeing the heavens made by the Good Lord. Psalm 19:2. Seeing this wondrous... More

The TN side of the journey from Tellico Plains was lovely, but the NC side (which is higher) was past peak. We did this as a day trip from Pigeon Forge and it was a LONG, LONG day. Bald River Falls, a 6 mile mile side trip, was very pretty.

This was the 2nd leg of our bike trip. I have never seen colors like what were on display here. Everywhere you turned was another picturesque view. It took a couple of hours to go from Robbinsville to rte 360 but it is WELL worth it. High winding roads thru the tops of the mountains ending up by Bald River... More

Most people come to this area to drive the Tail of the Dragon. While that's a lot of fun, I think the Cherohala Skyway is a much nicer ride.

I could ride the Cherohala Skyway e every day. It is almost 60miles end to end, of sweeping corners. Much of the road runs up the spine of the mountain range, allowing incredible views of the surrounding area. This road is often near deserted. Numerous scenic overlooks allow for plenty of photo ops. If you are riding the Tail of... More

This was our first time driving this so we looked at it as an overview as we did not know what to expect. We just drove through, stopping for a picnic dinner. There were numerous nice views but there were many spots that the trees could have been cleared more as they had grown up. Next time it would be... More

Great ride with spectacular views. Nice summer ride, ii is cool as you cross the mountains. Even better early fall ride, fall foliage scenery can't be beat. Everybody wants to ride the Dragon, and it's ok, but this road is close by the Dragon and it is better hands down for the views, still has some good curves, plus not... More

Very beautiful drive in the spring and fall. We read a lot of history and it is very interesting for this area.

The roads here are perfect for riding motorcycles. Whether summer, spring or fall, it is really beautiful. There are many pull offs to check out the mountains.

The views were not as good as we thought. You will miss the falls if you aren't' careful. I have been to better places.
