We were able to see all of the landing beaches of the invasion but spent time on Omaha Beach. Many of the bunkers are still intact with the big guns. It is sobering to stand near the water and look upward towards the rising ground, imagining the obstructions, wire, mines, etc. that lay between the soldiers and the machine guns.

This indeed is sacred ground that honors those members of the US Armed Forces who fought in World War II there.

On quiet peaceful day it is hard to imagine what happened here 72 years ago. But by visiting the point de Hoc and reading the plaques I appreciate the suffering and not just the statistics.

During our trip through Normandy we went to the American Cemetery. It is so impressive to see all the crosses. I think it is good for everyone to see and think about all the terrible thinks that happened during the second world war. The cemetery is a definitely must see when you are going to Normandy.

A place that is straight out of history. On the day we visited, it was sunny, calm and quite. Very different to the events that occurred here all those years ago. Well worth the trip.

We visited Omaha beach and the site of the German bunkers and gun locations above the beach. It was very much a spiritual event. The American D-day forces had an almost impossible and very dangerous task. The beach is much narrower than I thought. I knew about the high cliffs that the German guns controlled. We lost over 30,000 American... More

The beach is like any other beach. The noticeable difference with Omaha Beach, is the awareness of how many servicemen died there (as with all the D-Day beaches). The memorial is unusual in look but completely respectful of the event. As I stepped on the beach it felt almost wrong to stand where someone may have fallen. I paid my... More

As a American this was on my bucket list and it did not disappoint. You can try to imagine the Soldiers and Sailors and the heroism and shear will it would have taken to recapture Freedom.

Excellent. Must see for any age. Great scenery and obvious historic value. A must see even if you have to go out of your way. Do not miss
