There is a slight ledge of grainy sand as you enter the fabulous, clear water at Darkwood Beach and then your feet are treated to an amazing silky smooth sand that I have never experienced anywhere else. I'm 6 feet tall and even when I was chest deep I could easily see my toes in the incredibly clear water. The... More

A great Antiguan beach on the Caribbean Sea side. Big turquoise swells with strong wave action. Minimal shade unless you hang out at the beach restaurant. Parking along side the beach just off the main road is easy. We were visiting as high season was ending so the beach was never full. You can see Guadeloupe and Montserrat in the... More

Darkwood is located right next to the main road which makes it not the most suitable place if you are looking for seclusion, However, it's still a plus being that it's accessibly via public Bus system. there is a nice Beach bar on site of you would love to have a drink, but for the most part, this is a... We traveled here from a cruise ship, took around 25 mins and a nice drive, we originally wanted to go to a different beach but was talked into Darkwood by a Taxi driver perhaps under false pretences as I would suggest the beach bar had some form of deal on with taxi driver, however it was beautiful. Very quiet and... More

While Ffryers beach probably is a little better it's crowded and has those ugly floats there. On the other hand, Darkwood is almost as good as Ffryers and has almost no one here and has a simple nice beach shack and a small stall by a very friendly guy who sells coconuts, fruits, sugarcane, etc. Loved this beach.

We stayed near Jolly Harbor during the middle week of April. We visited most of the beaches along the Caribbean side near Jolly. Darkwoods had the best beach combing and was one of the least crowded. Did not have any jet ski locals trying to drum up business. They also have a decent bar at the end of the beach... More

We stayed at Hermitage Bay & hired a car for the day to visit the area around English harbour. On the way back we checked out the beaches and this one was brillant. Not too busy, beautifully white beach and a wonderful calm turquoise sea......Caribbean peregection!

We arrived before the cruise ships and had the beach to ourselves for the first hour. Dixie the beach guy - who has the patience of a saint -sorted us out with a prime spot on the beach. Within an hour or so the beach was really and Dixie was rushed off his feet. 3 hours later and everyone was... More
