There is not much to see on this big square, apart from the oversized monument with massive blades sticking out of the ground.

We stopped at the square as part of a tour of Santiago de Cuba. There are a few monuments to look at. There is a nice view of the city from this stop. There was an event going on in the field across from the...More

This is a very evocative memorial to the Revolution. The Equestrian statue is well executed and imposing and the spiky sculpture represents the machetes used by the guerrillas who joined the fray.

Santiago as a city has a long history in various revolutions and Revolutionary ideas. Why not have a plaza to idealize the theme. Of course the initial thought is the 1959 Revolution, but the war against Spain started here, lasted more than 10 years and...More

A really cool monument to check out, just huge and so much history behind it especially with the big straight bars.

We visited this amazing monument when touring Santiago De Cuba. It was explained to us that it was a memorial to all those who had died in the revolution, the straight bars represents the machetes that they fought with. It is well worth a visit.

We visited on a Saturday, and found at one side of the park/plaza, children were happily playing football. On the opposite side was the imposing statue of Antonia Maceo on his horse, with 23 large steel machetes representing the number of his wounds. Meanwhile through...More

Do you mean from the city center? The Plaza is *in* Santiago de Cuba. It's at the entrance to the city! I don't recall the price of the taxi. Hopefully someone else can help!
