Hike to Boeri Lake begins near the largest island´s lake called the Freshwater Lake. Boeri Lake is one of the wettest places on the planet and to see it on a sunny day can be considered a small miracle. We had this possibility. When the weather is clear the most impressive of the whole journey is not the lake itself or a beautiful mountain forest soaked with the scent of flowers, in the first place we must include view, which you can enjoy a substantial part of the journey. At first, the path is sharply rising mountain ´s rainforest that you lead out after a while on the slope that looks to the ocean. The ocean lies in the almost-kilometer depth and what about a view? It is totally disarming. Right now is the time to turn back and you will see the Freshwater Lake far down, which nestles between highest peaks of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Sit down for a moment and enjoy it, believe me, you will be as enthusiastic as I was. Once you will reach the highest point of the trail, the path declines through the wet stones and then rises a bit further. You must have patience and good shoes in this part of hike. Hundreds of small lizards, many hummingbirds and other bird´s species and countless species of insects will keep your company. After about an hour you reach the desired end of your trip, the Boeri Lake. It is quiet lake, surrounded on one side impenetrable vegetation and steep slopes on the other, giving the impression of intactness. Its tiny shoreline is an ideal place for a little snack. And the way back? It seems to be the same, but only at first sight.

Don´t miss this hike!

Highly recommend!

First, let me clarify. This activity is not about looking at the lake. It's about the amazing hike to the lake. Yes, the lake is beautiful, but this trip is about the journey much more than it is about the destination. That said, our hike here as part of a day trip with Sea Cat Tours was one of my favorite things that I did during a recent Caribbean cruise.

We did an out-and-back hike; I believe you can also do more of a circular hike that takes you to Freshwater Lake but I don't know much about that. I can't even begin to describe how amazingly beautiful the hike was. As we progressed from rain forest to elfin forest to cloud forest, the ferns, palm trees and other foliage changed in size and shape. One thing that was consistent is that it was always lush and beautiful. We hiked on steps built into the hillside, on plateaus, an across rivers (I would call them streams). When you get to the lake, there is a wooden platform that feels like the balcony of the world. We did not take the time to swim which I think disappointed our guide, lol. I am sure swimming in the lake would have been really special also.

I would say that the hike took about 2 or so hours. It is not a stroll, it is a hike. I would categorize it as moderate, maybe moderate plus in difficulty. I think you could do it without a guide as the path was pretty straightforward, but it would not have been as enjoyable as you would not have learned as much about the plant life.

1) very few people do this hike
2) it is easy and incredibly beautiful as you can see in my images
3) the sounds are just as amazing as the sights
... i am writing this review after 2 years since visiting... and i still recall it. This is an experience that should not be missed, especially given the low ratings on tripadvisor, and the nearby attractions getting more attention.. yes boiling lake is good, but this is for those who love the finer details, the tranquility, the scenery, etc. you will be a fool to miss this. forego the beaches, the snorkeling, the extrenuous hikes, the thrilling climbs, and make this the highlight of going to the Caribbean.

NOTE: I visited June 2014, but that was not an option on my review. dont know why as this place will not change. hopefully.

The trail to the Boeri Lake is well marked and maintained, not too long ( we took about 40 minutes each way) or difficult and takes you through some lovely vegetation. if you are familiar with the Boiling Lake hike, the trail is similar to the route up Morne Nichol, but not as step or as long. Much of the trail is cut steps, but there are some sections where you walk over rocks, which can be slippery when wet (which is most of the time you are in cloud forest after all!). A stick or pole and good shoes would be helpful. The Lake when we arrived, was shrouded in cloud and quite mysterious, but then the cloud lifted and we could appreciate how green and lovely it was. There are two or three great view points across the Morne Trois Pitons en route. Well worth the drive up from Roseau.

The hike took us about 45 minutes, its easy just a bit slippery in some places. The fog was making the hike so much cooler and the finale was just breathtaking.

My husband and I hiked this trail on an off and on rainy day. It is wide and easy to follow. But it is also rocky and extremely slippery. We were able to view the lake for a few minutes before the clouds rolled in. The foliage is lovely but typical of this area. I think that there are hikes through similar foliage that more interesting without constantly worrying about slipping on a slick rock.

We were hiking with two fresh 6yo kids and they have really enjoyed it. It’s adventurous and there are things to look at. You don’t need a guide. The path is really well maintained and there is nowhere else to go. Park right at the start of the hike. It took us about an hour with the kids including all the stops. Just over 30 mins to get back tot the car. The water in the lake is quite cold but refreshing and at the beginning in the right side you have reasonable access into the water that works also for the kids. We were lucky that we met only two couples on the way and we had the lake only for ourselves

Pretty small lake. Was low when we were there. They have done a great job at clearing the track. Easy to find your way

Definitely worth the 45-60 minute hike through the rainforest to reach this remote freshwater lake! We did swim, although the water was pretty cool- more like Lake Michigan in June! Worth the experience to be in such a fantastic setting nestled up on the side of a once active volcano in the rainforest! We were the only ones there!
