Visited on a recent trip to Dominica. Went to Red Rock, Jacko Falls and Emerald Pool on the same day. Emerald pool trail was amazing. It was 16 ECD to enter as a tourist. Locals can go view for free. The walk down is calming, it’s deep in the lush forest.
I absolutely loved walking through and viewing the different trees and plants. It’s a short walk, maybe around 10 mins.
The view of the falls are breathtaking and it’s relaxing ans refreshing and tranquil.
Take a costume and take a dip. There’s a cave to explore next to it too. It’s about 40 mins drive from Roseau through the centre of the island. There are toilets and changing rooms and a local snack bar.
On the track back up depending on your route, you will see some stunning views that are magical off the east side of the island, rolling hills wild and rugged. Amazing! They say it’s the 2nd most visited place on the island and you’ll know just why when you visit.

Pretty small waterfall pool that is highly trafficked. The pros are that the trail is very easy and well maintained. The day we went was rainy and it was later in the afternoon so there wasn’t a soul there. After having visited Sperry Falls and Victoria Falls this was not as exciting. There are a couple nice spots to view the valley and the Atlantic Ocean. If you are into a short easy hike and there aren’t a lot of people there it could be fun on a hot day.

Very slippery path! This is a broken ankle waiting to happen! There are railings for part of the way down then nothing to hold onto as you navigate very slick rocks.

Long harrowing drive up thru the rain forest on narrow road with lots of switchbacks. Beautiful, lush tropical scenery on the ride but it was sort of anticlimactic when we arrived at the pool and trail. The falls were small and less than dramatic unlike Trafalgar which was much more impressive.

Emerald pool is beautiful, facilities are nice.
about 160 steps up and down to reach the natural pool and there is a wooden path to enter the pool.

Definitely not worth the hour drive from Roseau, as it is comparatively small, the area is usually rainy, so one can't even sence the blue grotto, which rather feels as a muddy puddle. Still some kudos for the lush tropical greenry

Roseau, Dominica Trafalgar Falls and Emerald Pool sightseeing
Purchased sightseeing from the Celebrity Equinox for $64/person since no individual visits were allowed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Upon disembarking on September 10, 2021 in Dominica we were waiting on shore under hot sun with no shade till we were allowed to load into 12 passenger vans. Eight people were loaded in each van. By the way, restrooms were available right there but you will need $1 per person to use it. So, bring cash.
Our van did not have air conditioning and this was not a problem for us during long ride to the Emerald pool and after about half an hour walking down to the pool and back, we took another ride to the Falls for about 30 min. We (75 years and 72 years young) did really like the pool and waterfalls with a lot of photos to share with friends and family.
The big negative was the extremely limited opportunity to hear the historic narration by the driver. The van was not equipped with audio system and we could hear at best one quarter of his remarks. Given this experience I would not step in the van unless we will have the very front seating next to the driver or we will not take this excursion at all. All other passengers, with the exception the passengers seated next to the driver, had the same issue. Also keep in mind that part of the road was on a really bumpy side so it also should be taken in consideration when booking this trip.

Emerald Pool is magical. The short walk to get there is lovely- a walk through the pristine rainforest. Then you arrive at the pool and are in awe of the green/turquoise color that changes with the light of the sun. I can imagine this will get crowded if you go with a big group (like a cruise ship tour) as the pool is small. But if you are traveling in small groups, this is a place I would prioritize. We had the entire thing to ourselves- it was amazing!

How do you get to the pool? Is there transportation if coming from a cruise ship?

I think you must contact a tour operator to be sure. It isn't very far from Rosseau but the drive is quite circuitous. We had hired a car from Courtesy Rentals.
How long does it takes to hike to Emerald Pool ? How nature it's to you ( compare to country beach which is crowded by people ) ?

It's been a while, but I believe it was 45 minutes. It's not beach-like, so there isn't a real comparison. It's a tourist location, so it won't feel secluded, and due to very cold water, you won't swim for extended periods.

It would be an hour drive on a windy road. Worth it though!
When was the emerald discovered and how long have it been there

It is very well developed... meaning the walk is not paved, but might as well be! it has a dedicated visitor center, and has scattered signs and messages along the way describing plants and wildlife. Within dominica, which seemed to us, to be more 'raw and natural' this was the most developed and least 'natural'... although the emerald pool seems untouched (hopefully)
