The National Botanical Garden is more like a nice park and not much of a botanical garden. The paths are wide and well kept. You feel like you're out in the jungle. The Japanese Garden is nice but a little tired. The rest of the garden is bad need of repair. Some plants are in cages Yes cages like at... More

There is much written about this place in birding guides. So if you love bird watching (as we do) go there! It is a bit stressy to drive there - Santo Domingo is not for the fainthearted driver. So you might get a taxi. Once there pay your entrance fee and start walking straight from the entrance and left of... More

This has been the largest botanic garden that I have visited in any city. I really enjoyed the Japanese Garden and the orchards.

It is just like being outside the city. It is great, with truely beautiful gardens not to be missed; the one I like the most is the Japanese Garden: awesome! All areas are nice, a place to relax. Besides walking, visitors can take the small train that goes through the park. It is also a nice place for jogging, there... More

The national botanic gardens was one of the main highlights of my trip to Santo Domingo. The botanic garden is enormous and has so many different flora from the island! This place is truly beautiful and magical.

We went to the botanic garden based on reviews and its apparent rating as amongst world's top 10. First off, we were ignored by the lady in the ticket booth who was very interested in her mobile phone. After 2 minutes an older lady (the first one's mother??) came to the window and proceeded to issue us a RD$200 ticket... More

One of the largest collections of tropical botanical specimens I have ever seen. If one is knowledgable about tropical botanicals, I suggest a full day of walking. Also available, a half-hour "train" ride with English and Spanish explanations along the tour.

The Botanical Garden is one of my favorite places in Santo Domingo. It offers you a learning experience and a nice train ride. Showing you different plants and climates all in one place. Also...and the most attractive part is that you not only learn, you can exercise, run, walk, rest, have a picnic and take pictures!!! The scenery is amazing.

This is basically the biggest botanical park in town. Here you can find all the local plants of the island, a butterfly conservatory and a little exibition of all the natural environment of the Dominican Republic. The biggest attraction is huge japanese garden, where you can have really nice pictures and even spend the day below the shadows of the... More
