We tried twice to visit this museum, which is a bit of a drive from where we are staying in Sousa. Both times it was closed, despite the website saying it would be open. Very disappointing!

Would not take too long to visit the amber museum however it is interesting and a very short walk to the square with beautiful Victorian buildings and a fab ice cream parlour.

The museum was okay. Cool to learn how amber is made and where it came from. But the tour took less than 8 minutes. They spent more time trying to get us to buy their wine, cigars or jewelry than in the actual museum. Nice...More

Went on a trip to the Amber museum whilst in the Dominican on honeymoon. Was a nice day out, and stopped off for food. Trip reasonably priced and worth the cost.

Worth visiting. Very small but informative. Enjoyable short stroll through properly lit rooms. Provides background on amber formation.

The museum itself is very small, yet quite interesting. Sadly you are rushed through to get to the gift shop in hopes you spend more $$$. We were not impressed with this.

I learned a lot about Amber but the guides rush you through the museum to get you to the gift shop. They have nice jewelry but other than the amber I question the quality of the metal used in their jewelry.

Great guides that tell you everything you need to know about amber and larimar, very good displays and downstairs you can see the actual jewlery production

I learned about the history of Amber and the blue stone. The insect trapped Amber was cool and beautiful. I like this museum a lot.

Hi Belinda, we stayed at Riu in January which is very close to the dock. You can see the Amber museum as part of a tour as mentioned in other responses or you can go on your own which we did. If you go on your own the cost... More

It is in Old Puerto Plata near the Cathedral. It is a fair distance from Playa Dorado. Can't say for sure how far but you cannot walk. Sorry I do not know more. We had a car and drove in from Sosua.
