Altos de Chavon, is an architectural wonder, a 16th century replica of a Mediterranean village perched high above the Chavón River. The village was designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro, and created by Italian master designer and cinematographer Roberto Coppa. Dominican artisans handcrafted the stone pathways, decorative ironwork, furniture and enchanting buildings, reviving almost forgotten crafts of metal work and stone carving. Under Coppa's direction, each stone was hand cut, each wooden door frame was handcrafted and each wrought-iron detail hand-forged. Construction of the village began in 1976 and the village was inaugurated in 1982 with the concert of Frank Sinatra at the amphitheater. Altos de Chavon was built as a center of culture for the Dominican people.

La Romana was one of the stops on our southern Caribbean cruise. A group of of took a tour of Altos de Chavon. The views are beautiful (you'll see where they filmed the movie Anaconda). The dark chocolate in the chocolate shop was delicious (ended up buying some). The Amphitheater was awesome! Make sure you bring your camera!

If you ever visit DR, I highly recommend to visit Altos de Chavon. It's a beautiful village in a Mediterranean style recreated at the end if 70's. It's full ir art, cafes and restaurants. It has great views and an amazing roman-style amphitheater! It's great for shopping, drinks, sightseeing and food!

Honestly, the pictures don't do it justice. It is stunning and has so much to offer any group. Our wedding there was magical!! I wish we could go back just to see this place again.

Visited it as part of an excursion I did to Casa de Campo. Usual entrance fee is 25 USD. You need to have a passport with you for registration at the security. You can easily see everything in Altos de Chavon within 20 minutes. nothing spectacular or special. Have seen in other parts of the world much better historical sights.... More

We visited chavon when we did our excursion to saona island. Pretty little village with a theatre and a church where the tour guide will tell you that Micheal Jackson and Priscilla Presley got married lol and the river was where they filmed Rambo 2 and King Kong. Nice little pit stop for photos but only for a quick visit... More

We booked this as a shore excursion. It was a nice tour. Great place to see with breathtaking views of the Chavon River. Our only complaint was that the guide was a little stiff. No joking, no fun, just straight history of the place. Usually we have been blessed with fun guides. The most interesting thing we learnt though is... More
