Jamaica's path of independence from slavery was started by Sam Sharpe, so we really wanted to visit. However, the square is in a very congested part of town. It was crowded and we were hassled by locals. And it felt very unsafe

Sam Sharpe Square is a little gem in downtown Montego Bay. It gives a small insight into the slavery past of Jamaica and the struggle to end it. It is also a beautiful square to see outside of that.

If you like to know the history of the people, and/or the island that you travel to, then this one to hear. It's a small square, but it has history.

Worth a visit to see the real Jamaica. It's a cobblestone square with a few historic buildings. It's important historically and worth visiting but not many reasons to stay around for. Buy a pattie in one of the many shops.
