Old San Juan is a bit overrated, but makes for great photo ops
Oct 2021 • Solo
Pros: Eye-catching, colorful buildings, great opportunities for photos on almost every corner, police presence that makes you feel safe, cobblestone streets and an Old World Charm, fun nightlife, gorgeous ports and amazing plazas, most places ask for vaccination proof, Walkway of the Presidents area is gorgeous, El Morro/Cristobal forts offer amazing panoramic views (make sure to bring lots of water and sunscreen)

Cons: Steep hills (at least youll get some exercise!), some mentally ill stragglers, annoying solictors and homeless, funky/sewage smell, lots of dilapidated/abandoned buildings that are an eye sore, the city is way overdue for some restoration/fixing up, restaurants are hit or miss, Paseo de Princesa was closed for construction unfortunately

Colourful and Lively Streets!
Jun 2021
If you're looking for great food and a cultural experience, Old San Juan is the place for you! You can roam it's colourful streets for hours on end, and it's guaranteed that every street has a top-notch restaurant. Don't forget to explore the churches too as there are many (and the fortresses!)

Charming and extremely SAFE

I went a month ago and they are very empty. Most of people want to go to Hawaii but I would recommend come here to avoid the crowd. People are friendly, lots of great food option. Everyone follow COVID guideline. I highly hope you can come and see the beauty of it.

A beautiful place to meander.

Old San Juan was full of history and beauty. It’s colorful, relaxing, interesting and had plenty of historical sites to explore and places to stop in to eat, drink, and shop. We really enjoyed our time there, so much so that we spent an extra day exploring. We were staying at a resort in San Juan and it was well worth renting a car for two days to explore Old San Juan. Highly recommend visiting it if you are in the area. It’s going to be super hard to only pick 10 photos from our trip to share.

Cobblestone streets = ❤️

Nice area to explore. We went at night and it was still beautiful just walking along the streets. We stopped at a few places that were open along the way. Wish we would have went back in daytime to see more!

"Historical Colorful and Artistic"
Aug 2021
Old San Juan is everything all in one. It's colorful, vibrant, and historical. It has almost a European vibe with Latin flare with the architectural designs of the buildings. It's fantastic for taking pictures. This is a tourist area, but locals are there as well. Plan for full day of walking if you plan on visiting El Morro fort, restaurants, bars, and shops it's spread out and parking is little to none. Most of the streets are cobble stones and uphill so, driving is a headache. Best to park in a parking garage for like $2 - $5 per hour. You can view the ocean by the outskirts of the area especially by El Morro. Some places may not be open due to Covid. However, those that are will not allow you in without a mask.

Lots of great restaurants, bars, and shops to buy souvenirs. The old forts run along the edge. You can spend the whole day and night here exploring.

Do a guided tour
Aug 2021
Old San Juan definitely has a lot of character and history. This is not something you would be able to get by reading a book as you walk along or using an app. Best to find a local guide and have a walking or a bike tour so you can understand the rich history. The place definitely has a European vibe and something definitely to do.
