More than just an art museum, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico hosts concerts and festivals as well.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), a non-for-profit organization, was inaugurated on July 1, 2000, as a legacy for the Puerto Rican people. The mission of the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico is to enrich the lives of its diverse audiences by making accessible and promoting the knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of visual arts from Puerto Rico and the world. The MAPR engages diverse communities to facilitate learning experiences about the visual arts through: the growth of a well-researched permanent collection exemplifying significant and representative examples of Puerto Rican art from the sixteenth century to the present; a dynamic program of exhibitions supported by engaging and exciting educational and cultural programs that collectively deepen the understanding of the role of the visual arts in the human experience and contribute to the creation of a curatorial legacy; documentation, research, interpretation, preservation, and conservation of the collection and the visual arts patrimony of Puerto Rico; and alliances with local, regional, and international museums and institutions to advance the knowledge of, access to, and understanding of the visual arts of the world.

We saw two exhibits at the museum and both were informative and interesting. The guides were ok, not that great. They managed to answer many of our questions, but lacked imagination and seemed to regorgitate memorized facts rather than inspire and directly answer questions.

I went to the museum to see a new exhibition about skateboards and it is awesome, very creative. I loved the pond in the back of the museum.

I gave it a 4 star only because the staff there were on you like they were hovering. If I moved left they moved left. I wanted to say "relax, I'm not going to touch." That was a bit annoying. But overall it was nice.

It took me 2.5 years of living within a few blocks to get here. What a mistake. The grounds and gardens are beautiful, and the art and facility are top-knotch. Spend two hours minimum here. You won't be disappointed.

No words required, just go visit. Great art inside and outside in the 2 acre garden. No photos are allowed inside but you can get some great ones outside at the Koi pond.

You cant call it Museum of Puerto Rico without having art from the first tribes that inhabited the island. This only has contemporary arts, and most of them are not that good. The gardens are beautiful though make sure to spend sometime in it.

We kind of stumbled upon this Art Museum while shopping. We just loved it. They have a wonderful collection and is a beautiful building. Please stop by for a visit when shopping in Old San Juan. You'll be so glad that you did.

I was here in the early 2000s, but I'm telling you, this museum is a wonder! As a museum lover, I totally recommend it! Its outside is part of the UPR's Botanical Garden, and has a pond with pretty koi fishes. Then, when you enter it... You should see it! Not gonna spoil the fun! Bring some cash/funds too, because...
