Stayed at Hotel El Convento kittycorner across the street and admired the view of the cathedral, so it was an easy choice to pop in and tiptoe around the galleries- paintings, statues, bits of history written in Spanish mostly, look at that high ceiling, however did they paint it? Were I devout, this would have been a great place to... More

This beautiful Cathedral is right in the middle of Old San Juan. Step inside to view the tomb of Ponce de Leon. You don't have to spend long here, but it is worth a quick peak. We went to Mass on Sunday. The Bishop presided over a Mass totally in Spanish. While Mass was going on, about seven babies were... More

This was a beautiful historic cathedral. Beautiful painting on the ceiling and tops of columns to give illusion of depth and elaborate decoration. There is a tender statue of Our Lady of Divine Providence, holding a sleeping Christ child.

This is a must-do in Old San Juan due to the history which is where Ponce de Leon is interred. The inside is beautiful, a nice surprise based on the simplicity of the exterior. Not sure the hours but it is closed in the evenings as we walked by later in the day and all the doors were closed.

We got married in this Cathedral 38 years ago and is as beautiful as always. The remains of Juan Ponce de Leon are there. Is on of the oldest churches in PR and the Caribbean.
