Come up to the mountains and follow the trail to the waterfall that gave Hacienda Buena Vista its name. What used to be an important coffee plantation was also the scenario of a unique relationship between land, water and slavery. Today, at the heart of the former hacienda is a carefully restored historical site containing structures more than a century old and a hydraulic turbine that's the only one of its kind. Completely refurbished, the turbine is still powered by the water of Río Canas and serves as the main engine for other machines of the time. Spaces are limited, please reserve in advance online or by phone.

I'm sitting here very disappointed. I didn't see in the reviews that we had to book ahead; just saw good reviews so we drove up here. the property looks gorgeous, but the security guard wouldn't let us in even for the gift shop. Maybe next time we're in Puerto Rico we'll get a tour.

This tour was fantastic! The hacienda was beautiful, the grounds were well kept and our tour guide, Ray, was very knowledgeable. Children might not be interested (the one on our tour was) but I thought it was great. Be aware that there is a minimal amount of hiking on a path...nothing strenuous though. Everyone was friendly and the place was... More

Worth the trip up the mountain to enjoy this place. Most interesting to see how everything is powered by water. Tour was very interesting how it included PR and agricultural history. Guide very knowledgable and friendly. Think should have included free coffee tasting though.

Hello visitor! The trip through the mountains is definitely part of the experience while visiting Hacienda Buena Vista. After the tour you can place pieces together of why they choose that specific location, which is pretty neat. We appreciate you taking the time in letting us know you enjoyed the tour and thank you for your suggestion of free coffee... More

Is like traveling in time, when life was more simple. You will learn how the coffee was collected and processed thru water machinery. Thanks to places like Hacienda Buena Vista we can learn about our culture and about our heritage. Hope we never loss a place like this. Go enjoy the tour and dont forget to taste the coffee from... The tour was interesting to see how they have converted this plantation. The information was good. Be sure to get very clear directions, as this place isn't the easiest to find. In fact we went about 15 minutes the wrong way before we figured that out. In the end, worth the trip once we got there.

Enter through the original compound that comprises the farm and it's necessary buildings. Guided tour teaches you basics about coffee, how it's grown, harvested and sold. Beautiful grounds. Use of running water to power the 1890's processing machinery. They want you to schedule a tour, but if you show up, you can take your chances on getting a tour. Chance... More

If you like nature, Coffee plantation and lots of trees, a little creek with a few ponds, walk on a nice trail, i mean, complete nature, then this is your place. We took their Almost 2 hours tour and enjoyed every minute of It. Totally recommend It. Our tour Guide was very knowledgeable and made the time more interesting.
