The narrow gauge St. Kitts scenic railway is one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. Originally built in 1912 to deliver sugarcane from the fields to the sugar mill in Basseterre, the "Last Railway in the West Indies" now provides a fascinating way for visitors to see the island from the comfort of modern passenger train cars and sightseeing buses. The railway hugs the Northeastern coastline where spectacular vistas of ocean, surf, cliffs, and lush vegetation surround you. The train rolls across tall steel bridges spanning deep ""ghuts"", or canyons, and winds through small villages and farms. Dark green rainforests are skirted by rippling fields of sugar can, with the volcanic cone of Mt. Liamuiga rising above the railway. This unique rail and highway experience allows visitors the opportunity to see the island in a very short period of time. Your guide will point out all the sights as the train passes old sugar estates with abandoned windmills and chimneys.

We loved this - a great way to see St Kitts and with singing and rum too!! Our guide Clara worked hard but it was sometimes hard to hear her. Otherwise, a great trip! Bruce

This is a (very) narrow gauge railway and, most unusually, it is a double decker train - very different and certainly quaint. It was built during the bygone days of sugar cane production on the island and, when this ceased, the train became a tourist...More

Part of a cruise excursion, we were picked up at the dock by enclosed, air-conditioned busses and transported to the railroad depot, about 20 minutes away. The smaller buses handles about 15 people and has no restroom. This tour, including the busses, are handicap accessible,...More

We didn't know much about this before booking having just seen the track on a separate bus tour around Island but taking this trip was worth every dollar. We were lucky to have the front carriage and there were only 6 of us on train...More

My wife has mobility issues so we took this ride to give us an all around view of the island and were not disappointed. I sat at the top level and got some great pictures of the island. The only scary thing was the bridge...More

We visited St Kitts on a cruise and chose the scenic railway as a shore excursion. It was an interesting way to see the island and to gain an appreciation of the environment under which the St Kitts residents live. There were beautiful views of...More

Great excursion. arranged via our cruise ship, train coupled with catamaran sail; depending on number of guests, you might sail first from the port area, then take the train back to near the port, or vice-versa. We had been in 2 minds about adding on...More

This is something different try. We found it to be very informative and a fun tour. The bus picked us up at the cruise ship port. The ride to the train was about 20 minutes. The driver was very informative all along the way. We...More

Hi there, as far as i am aware the cruise ship takes over the train for the day and so you won't be able to book independently. I agree it is a bit expensive, but you are taken there and back with drinks included, so that... More
