Nice people, chairs and umbrellas in good condition ($10), better beaches can be found. Substantial shells on beach and in water, but once in water was not rough. Taxi driver was an informative guide. Beware the photo op stop the top of the point where the Caribbean and Atlantic are visualized-a monkey may be placed in your face,

The beach is not great. There are a couple spots to get drinks but two are a bit sketchy. The one where most people where at was crowded and tight.

We ended up at No Limit Beach Bar. Less populated and Cheaper than Reggae. James was friendly and not pushy. I got a great aloe massage there too! Sand wasn’t like Aruba but seemed very natural with a great view!

Mundo Beach Bar and chair service was located on the left side of the beach. The owner Mundo was very attentive and friendly.
The Beach was pristine. The right side of the beach was covered in seaweed and debris.

Cockleshell beach is St. Kitts most southern beach. Drive to it is scenic over the Timothy Hill lookout.
Along the way you pass several other beaches which were quite better than Cockleshell itself, so if tight with time spare yourself the unnecessary drive.

The beach is beautiful. The sand is both white and black. There are lots of Beach chairs and umbrellas for rent. There are a lot of shells you have to walk through to reach the sandy bottom. Additionally that is a sharp drop off entering the water. Once you get in the water it's comfortable. You can take a catamaran back to ship which pulls right up on the beach or you can take a short boat ride to Nevis which you can see from the beach.

This must rank as probably the worst beach on any island that we've visited. There's only limited stretches where the beach is just sand, the vast majority of the stretch is.....well it's not called Cockleshell Bay for nothing. Certainly there's several ramshackle bars and a couple of the bars do tender the beach in front of their sunbeds.
The Reggae Beach bar at the very end is nice enough but as for the bay itself do yourself a favour and find a better place. There's too much flotsam and jetsam for my liking and it's certainly not what dreams are made for.

Nice day out away from the Cruise Terminal, ask to be dropped off at the far end of the beach as this is the best part. Sunbeds & umbrellas are available as well as food & drink.

DONT VISIT THIS BEACH!!!!
They come around and try and get you to get pictures with monkeys .. which is fine but one guy found his monkey eating a apple core and he started punching him and slapping him. I yelled at him to stop hitting him and he kept on doing it more and more to get a reaction out of everyone. People we’re all watching him in shock. It’s disgusting. He kept walking past us and hitting his monkey right in front of me. It’s a baby monkey !! We had to leave because he wouldn’t stop. Don’t visit here. Beach wasn’t even that nice. Way nicer ones closer to the cruise port. They also charge $10 for an umbrella and $5 a chair.

Was on a 2 week Caribbean cruise and had a stop at St.Kitts and decided to do water sports activities rather than sightsee the island.
Came by the water sports activities and it was located in Cockleshell beach. It was a match made in heaven. Did the water sports and then relaxed on the beach. The beach was awesome. There weren't many people around and it was clean and amazing. The other side of the beach (Other side of the water sports) was quite a long beach.
I went for a walk, got tired midway and returned back and settled with a beer.
On the way to the beach, you come across the Timothy Hill Overlook viewpoint which gives you some stunning views of the island.

Staying along the South-Eastern beaches in mid-June 2020 (Cockleshell, Turtle Beach, Banana Bay area).
According to cruise schedules online, there are only 2 ships coming in that week, both on separate days.
What kind of crowds should we expect during that time of year? I'm assuming the 2 days when the boats are docked could get pretty crowded...how about the rest of the week?

Get a cab to Cockleshell Beach, they drop you at the Reggae Club...however, if you walk past that small beach stretch, there’s a break in between, where a boat can be. Walk past and you’re at Loxseen, which has much more beautiful water, chairs are less $, $2.00 beers. Great day. If you encounter people selling things, a gentle ‘ no thank you ‘ is effective. . Enjoy!
Is there room to move our chairs & umbrella away from the line of chairs? Going in March

Sorry, just saw your question.
There is room on the beach to move a bit away from the line of chairs but I'm not sure whether you can move their chairs that far. If you have your own chair, yes, you can move away from others.

If you're in St Kitts then Cockleshell's good - warm and calm with decent sights.
Otherwise, Tobago is a snorkeling and diving paradise - Buccoo Reef, Castara, Englishman's Bay and the amazing Pirate's Bay in Charlotteville all have wonderful spots. Many professional dive shops on island to assist as well.
PM me for detailed info, if needed.

Hi There,
Can you get a shared ride in a taxi/van with other cruise passengers .....Did that in St Maarten......Main question how far away are the taxis from the port....Thank you..:-)...

We did not go there from a cruise. We were staying in a near by resort. I am sure you can share a taxi with someone from the port to the beach. Not sure how far it is.

Would you recommend a day at this beach for an active 90 year old - active but 90 😊 we will be going from a cruise ship in March and want to find a nice place to take her? Thank you for any information you can give us.

This is a nice beach with clear water and clean sand with that being said there is a drop off in the water so getting in and out of the water may be an issue for them other than that beautiful beach to spend the day.

hi guys, anyone who know the answers below?

2) days it is open
3) hours it is open

1. No entrance fee- but be prepared to pay for beach chairs/umbrellas.
2. It was our understanding this was a public beach, so should be open most days during daytime hours.
*This beach does not have much in the way of restaurants and true to its name, there were broken shells all over the beach. My son cut his foot deeply enough within 30 mins of arriving that he was unable to swim.
