We took the half day tour with Big Beard's in the morning. We met up with the crew of Capt Steve and mates Tommy and Chris. They really took care of us all and made sure we had a good time. First stop was Turtle...More

I visited Buck Island and snorkeled through the reef with Big Beard's half day tour. It was extremely beautiful. I doubt I will ever experience the opportunity to swim around such a rare piece of nature in any other part of the world. This place...More

Combination review of Buck Island and Captain Heinz. Who you go with will impact your experience. Did a half day with another operator - very professional, not very personal. Captain Carl Hienz has been on St Croix for a long time (40+ yrs) and is...More

We took the 1/2 day snorkel trip and enjoyed it very much. It is sad the way the reef itself is so dead. There were quite a few fish, but not like pre global warming. The locals say the reef is coming back since the...More

Much of the reef we viewed is dead and not a lot of reef fishes. Too much human traffic from snorkel tours. Best part of tour is the white sand beach at other end of island. Be sure to bring waterproof camera if you go....More

Good to see once. Half day enough. We went of the full day but that is too much. There are better beaches. Better with a small group. The day we went was definitely not a beginner snorkel day. Piles of dead coral from 1989 hurricane...More

We noticed a lot more life at the reef than our last time which was only 4 years ago. Although the ocean wasn't calm the water was very clear and the waves didn't affect our snorkeling at all.

Snorkel or dive buck island?

Snorkeling only. No diving allowed. Access by boats with permits only. There are several tour companies who go to Buck Island, ranging from $35 to $70 for a 3 hour tour. $70 is too much, in my opinion.

We are a group of four adults arriving in St. Croix on I believe April 3, 2017 at 8:00 AM on the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas and leaves St. Croix at 5:00 PM. Do you have availability and what is the total cost per person for your boat charter to go snorkeling at Buck Island and for how long? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I saw some information on Trip Advisor. Thank you. Jerrel Schorr

There are a number of tour companies who leave from Christiansted. Check them out individually. You can get taxis easily from Fredricksted to Christiansted at any time.

Hi, my son is 15 and just beginning to snorkel. Is the water very deep? Will he be able to stand (he's 5'6)? Is there a beach they snorkel from? Any recommendations? Thanks

Yes. It is a gradual dip. You can snorkel off the beach or at the underwater park. The underwater park is probably 30 feet deep- but you will never be far from the boat. Buck Island is absolutely amazing. We have traveled... More
