Sometimes the best way to describe something is by saying what it isn't. Dolphin Cay isn't an aquarium, it's not an entertainment facility, and it doesn't stage marine shows. Opened in 2007 in response to a need to provide a safe haven for 16 stranded dolphins whose home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, Dolphin Cay is one of the world's largest open-air, man-made marine mammal habitats. Located on the west side of the Atlantis, Paradise Island property, the 14-acre environment includes an 11-acre lagoon complete with coves and sandy beaches, 7 connected "residential" pools, a state-of-the-art education center, an animal rescue-rehabilitation hospital, an animal pharmacy, a quarantine, and a separate sea lion center. Dolphin Cay is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA), and the International Marine Animal Trainers' Association (IMATA). Through its partnerships with the University of Florida's School of Veterinary Medicine and University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, Dolphin Cay plays an active role in the development of the advanced research and knowledge about marine mammals. Every visit to Dolphin Cay supports the Atlantis Blue Project Foundation, creating and promoting solutions for a wide range of marine conservation challenges from coral reef degradation to marine species in decline.

We received the Shallow Water Dolphin Experience through the Casino Experience Pass we received via our Total Rewards offer. It was absolutely amazing! We were broken into small groups and each group interacted with a beautiful dolphin. The staff was knowledgeable and patient. We got...More

My boyfriend & I paid $442 to be in the water for only 20 minutes if that with the dolphins. Upon signing up the lady made it seem like we would be diving with the dolphins and doing more hands on things but we did...More

First off, I had a total brain fart on vacation and got my days mixed up. When we went to do the experience, I was told we missed our experience (it was the day before). They were able to get us in another class the...More

This was such a great opportunity to get up and close to the dolphins. The trainers treat them well in the sense that they don’t force them to come out to play - that they take out the dolphins and motivate them to want to...More

I was happy to see how big of an area the dolphins actually have. Some other places I went to wee much smaller. They don't let you ride the dolphins but you interact with them and there are a few different types of options. There...More

It was always a bucket list item for me to swim with dolphins, but now I just feel badly for them being kept like that. The staff are lovely and clearly love the dolphins - a but there are almost 50 dolphins in a tiny...More

In May 2018, my husband, myself and another couple were staying at the Riu and walked over to Atlantis where we booked a last-minute dolphin excursion. We didn’t know what to expect but it surpassed anything we could’ve imagined. The place was serene and beautiful....More

We did the shallow water interaction at 9 a.m., and it was all that we needed! We set for a short presentation and then put on our wetsuits. Please, pay attention to your wetsuit because my husband was about to put his on and it...More

We went on 5/4, and it was fantastic. Our trainer was Roberto, and he was awesome. He knew the dolphins well, and was great with kids. Though, we didn’t realize that the rise in shine is a no touch interaction. If you want to interact...More

We did paddle boarding with the dolphins. While I would definitely recommend a dolphin experience, I would not recommend paddle boarding. The paddle boards were inflatable and difficult to use. It was very windy when we went which kept blowing the paddle boards back towards...More
