It's really a beautiful place. As you walk up the mountain the buildings are set on different levels. Each level has done thing wonderful to see. It gets very cold due to the altitude so bring a jacket with you at any time of the year.

Going to Oropa is always a pleasure, for the relax and the landscapes. You can visit the church and the chapel, the library and the long aisles with all the "ex voto" representing a piece of history of the lands and the traditions of the people. But you can also start walking around and going in the “passeggiata dei preti”... More

One of the most spectacular Sanctuaries in Italy. Surrounded by the mountains is a must see if traveling in Piedmont! A trekking in the wood to reach the place from Biella is highly recommended. And for those who will make it, a tasty polenta will be the award!

An amazing location and impressive sanctuary. Although during our visit the weather changed rapidly and started raining heavily and fog was obstructing the view, it is an inspiring setting. We were very fortunate to attend a mass service in the Ancient Basilica which was very spiritual. Unfortunately due to a foot injury I could not climb the stairs all the... More

Well worth visiting to see the ancient chapel and the Black Madonna. We walked there from Biella but there was plenty of car spaces available. The accommodation was clean and basic but understand there are more upmarket suites

I have been here several times over the years and the view is always charming. The sanctuary is set against a backdrop of majestic alps, and the church itself is beautiful with it's mysterious looking black Madonna and baby Jesus. We arrived while a mass was being held and were allowed to enter and hear it. It was quite beautiful.... More

Santuario di Oropa is a sanctuary built on the foothills of the alps with an ancient basilica and the restored grounds of a former monastery. It is a beautiful property--magnificent architecture, with breathtaking views of the mountains in the background and Italian villages in the foreground. There are many rooms for rental, and even conference rooms for larger gatherings. Just... More

Interesting stay - very busy in August which is to be expected. When the coaches leave it's magical and quiet. Breathtaking surroundings and for those faithful worshippers a wonderful retreat.

This is a former monastery. The rooms were the cells the religious stayed in so they are not large. We had 2 twin beds, hard, thin mattresses with rough sheets. After a long day of touring and lots of walking we didn't really care and it made it feel more like a pilgrimage to a monastery (it was!) than a... More

Spent 4 days there. Reservation made via their web site. Staff are multi-lingual. Rooms were very comfortable with antique style furniture with a wonderful crucifix and portrait of Our Lady on the wall. Many choices of restaurants to eat. Remember to try the polenta concia; a local recipe. The Santuario is very spiritual, not just religious tourism. The old church... More
