Mother earth's coffee heaven
Nov 2021 • Couples
We had such a good time with our tour guide Carmelo! The farm was lovely and had not just coffee plants but also flowers and fruits. We learned everything about how the coffee is grown, picked, and roasted and sadly the repercussions of hurricane Maria but also what they're doing to continue to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly. I don't usually drink black coffee but here its such quality that you don't need any additives. Also the chocolates were divine. We called to set up a tour. They do 11am and 2pm. The drive was scenic but it does get to a narrow road that is still a two-way road so just be on guard going around turns and such. But we made it in a normal sedan. Definitely book this as part of your trip!

Fun and informative day trip!
Nov 2021
I'll never look at my morning coffee in the same way. The work that goes into harvesting, drying, and roasting beans was way more than I could've imagined. Carmelo was friendly, knowledgeable, and made a killer cup of coffee on the home patio of Israel and Sandra. And then there's the chocolate. Out of this world! A beautiful and somewhat adventurous road trip is required to get here, and worth every bit of it!

Beautiful Coffee farm and Garden with an Adventurous Drive
Oct 2021 • Couples
NOTE: the last 10 miles of road are not for the faint of heart! They are in poor condition, are only one car wide, and a wrong turn can be treacherous. Highly recommend going only by 4 x 4, but it would be possible by car with dry conditions at low speed, but just barely... We made it by car, but would not have chosen a car again for this trip.
The farm itself was interesting. No coffee for purchase this day. The chocolate was amazing and so we're the views and flowers, and great information about coffee!

This was a difficult place to ge to with a one lane dirt road. Overall this was a good tour. Could not relay on GPS to find the farm, had to ask for directions. The highlight of the tour was the tour guide, who was extremely knowledgeable of plantation, vegetation and the entire coffee processing. Unfortunately did not get to see the process envolved in preparing the coffee beans for roasting. The coffee tasting at the end of the tour was very good and enlightening. To be fare, most of the coffee plantation was still recovering from hurricane Mary. For this reason the tour was a bit limited. Overall, this was a good tour. Would I do it again, probably not.

A nice off the beaten track experience

The drive itself is an adventure with great coffee, chocolate, and views awaiting you at the top. Call to reserve a spot on the tour. Bring bug spray and sunscreen if you desire. Carmelo is super knowledgeable and personable. Learn a lot about coffee, as well as the impacts of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico.

Great tour in a beautiful location

Wonderful experience. We really enjoyed the tour and explanation of the process to harvest and process the coffee as well as all the other plants and edibles grown on the farm. The drive there was amazing. We took the more challenging “scenic” route and got lost a bit, but that was part of the fun. Highly recommended.

Drive to Sandra Farms is WORTH IT
Apr 2021
Sandra Farms was worth the drive. Carmelo was a wonderful tour guide as he showed us around the grounds walking us through the step by step process of the making of their scrumptious coffee. The views were astonishing! Turns out they also have an Airbnb on the property which I'm sure must be incredible.

My favorite part of the tour was the coffee and chocolate tasting at the end. Nick and I drink coffee but I usually spruce mine up with sugar and milk as does he. Carmelo encouraged us to try it black first so we could appreciate the flavor of the bean before deciding what to add and WOW they make some genuinely high quality coffee. Don't even get me started on the chocolate either. We bought a big bag of 50 pieces that each contain a coffee bean inside. YUM.

We did not want to leave- which may have been what manifested the rain storm that kept us stuck there for another hour forcing us to drive down in the dark. Yikes. But Carmelo informed us that we had actually taken that road, in other words the really dangerous one that even the locals avoid, and that there was an alternate route we could take.

Lovely views, friendly hosts

We loved our visit to Sandra Farms. The chocolate tasting was a highlight for my children, and the views were spectacular. Domenico took the time teach us about sustainable farming in Puerto Rico. He also opened a cacao pod and let us taste the fruit, pointed out local fauna, and directed us to a beautiful hike through the farm that offered more amazing views. We purchased some chocolate to take with us, and will definitely order from them again.
