Although many refer to this as first street it is actually Lopez Mateos and is the tourist district (actual downtown or Centro is 5 blocks) away lots of shops, bars and restaurants and all types of food. Most people in this area speak English, but if you speak Spanish so much the better, do go to an ATM and get... More

I had my expectations but the street is fully of very low level souvenir stores, in fact the worst I have ever seen. I collect magnets from my trips and I struggled a lot to find one, quite lousy and cost me 5 US as if I were in DC. sad and poor. i would not dare walking there by... More

This is a great area to meander and check out some of the great silver jewelry Mexico is famous for. There are also lots of boutiques that offer modern pieces that are unique and make great gifts or statement pieces for yourself. My two favorite boutiques were Bulldog and one inside the restaurant Rey del Sol. Bulldog offers ver contemporary... More

Great nightlife at 1st Street with bars, restaurants and clubs along it. It’s not really long but many places to relax and have a drink. During the day, souvenir stores are open but be ready for the salespeople to be all up in your face.

Lots of stores for everyone to hit. You can find anything and everything, including buying your favorite bottle of alcohol.

This is the tourist area with lots of shops, restaurants, and drinking establishments. This is similar to most tourist shopping in Mexico. It is near the Malacon so a short walk to visit there and observe the bay area.

I stayed at a hotel right on Avenue Mateo Lopez (one block away from Papas y Beer and Hussong's Cantina. Street was busy in both directions from 2 pm until long after 2 am. Many bars/restaurants open and loud music playing from each one. Felt safe even though there were several locals/gringos sleeping in doorways later in the evening. If... More

You can get good deals but be careful . Especially the days with the cruise ship in, many stores have commission salesmen, that double or even triple the real price to bargain with you. Most people lose out and get ripped of this way. Better go to the stores that have fixed prices and mark their merchandise. This way you... More

Fun but ultimately exhausting with sales tactics so aggressive they leave Tijuana and even Morocco in the dust. Prepare for everyone to have a hand out - "hey Amiga/amigo, come in my shop!" Some vendors or pub touters will even step in your path or try to follow you. It's a pity, since some of the shops have interesting merchandise... More
