This cultural/historical site is a nice stop along travels north or south. Directions from outdated guide books are confusing. The place is now well marked with a sign (NOT the stop at the geodesic dome, but the next stop south at KM 171. The trail...More

These cave paintings are very interesting though they don't have the size or the imagery of their larger cousins further south. However, they are so easy to visit and in such a beautiful area full of life that I highly recommend seeing them on your...More

These old rock paintings are losing their lustre, but are still worth the trip to see. The only other similar paintings that I am familiar with are above Loreto

Apparently no one is sure who painted this rock art. Even the native people who met Spanish explorers in the 1500s claimed no ancestral connection to the artists. Unlike most cave art in BC, these paintings are only a short distance from the highway, though...More

I have been to the remote, high desert Gran Mural rock art in the Sierra San Franciscos south of Catavina by mule. But this small cave at mile marker 176 has a well marker trail, placards with historical information about the Cochimi indigenous people and...More

This is a terrific little hike just off the road between El Rosario and Ensenada, Baja CA, Mexico. A fairly easy trail leads to a small cave opening that you have to crawl into to reveal an intriguing set of colorful cave paintings. The symbols...More
