I can describe this place in one word: Incredible! The mission is an hour’s drive from Loreto, through windy roads that keep climbing without ever reaching the top of the picturesque mountains in the south of Baja. The journey is breathtaking. You will marvel at...More

The mission is located inland from Loreto. It is partly paved and partly dirt road going into the desert foothills leading into a valley where the mission is located. The mission is in good shape with definite wear and tear. There is a small cemetery...More

This is the oldest mission in California. It can be easily reached from Loreto either by private car or by taxi. The road up to he mission is very interesting. Try to imagine it when all materials were carried by burros to build it. Well...More

The mission was a charming, old mission in a tiny town hidden up in the mountains. It took about 35 minutes each way on narrow, switchback roads.

Loreto is the starting point for a visit to San Javier. Hotels and other services are available in Loreto but I would not count on anything but a small restaurant in San Javier. A good B&B in Loreto might be the La Damiana... More

I never saw anyone drunk there, only reverent pilgrims visiting truly religious ancient site. Like an oasis in the midst of no-where. There are no restrooms on way there as you are traveling on secondary road thru wilderness!

I did not hike this area. It was about an hour drive from bottom to top.
