We toured the old ruins of the church and fort in San Blas. An older gentleman was a bilingual historian and offered information. Beautiful old ruins of a church and a fort which once protected the port of San Blas in the 1500's. Lots of history including the visit from Fray Junipero Serra on his way to build missions in... We went to the fort because we were told the view was phenomenal...and it was! We got a short tour by a guy who was super friendly, but didn't speak much English. We had our picnic lunch there and then moved on to our next stop! Kids enjoyed looking at the canons!

Interesting history here, but you have to work to get it.... read up before you go to the site, and make an effort to speak to the guide ( he is very patient with those of us who speak " tourist Spanish" ) in order to learn more, as there is no signage.

Average Colonial ruins, about a km. from the town centre, with a good view of the town and the distant Pacific. The mosquitoes take no prisoners; douse yourself with Off! if you don't want instant chikungunya!

A short taxi ride will take you up to the old church ruins and the fort. Great views of San Blas and the ocean. Good perspective of where everything is.
