I tried hard to stay and enjoy the food and music. But the drunken locals were a bit too much. I felt unsafe and the whole area felt dirty. This is more of a skid row than a tourist attraction.

I love mariachi....really its in my blood. But I was so disgusted by this area. Homeless , drunks and garbage piled up everywhere. A beautiful cathedral right next door and music blaring from sound system while church in session. You have to keep your eyes open the whole time you are walking or sitting at a table. Such a shame.... More

We had a wonderful time in Guadalajara Mexico. We explored many places in downtown and of course the Mariachi Plaza! I really recommend to visit as many locations as you can in Jalisco. I will be Back soon!

The mariachis are all getting ready for the evening at that time, and you see them shaving, shining their shoes and ornaments, putting eyedrops in their eyes. you also see the mariachis of all ages, from tiny kids to guys that are probably great grandfathers... so funny!

Great for a refreshment or meal after shopping at San Juan De Dios and has been updated and improved greatly during the past several years...and even if you don't pay for Mariachis, there is usually a group close by that you can listen to...or hire to come to your party.

I've always found this area a little spooky at night and there are better ways to find live music in Guadalajara. The restaurant Santa Coyote has good mariachis. There's a bar on Avenida Vallarta (one of the principal streets of western Guadalajara at the corner with Calderon de la Barca...any cabbie could get you there.

I would not go to see mariachis down at the Plaza de los Mariachis anymore. I don't think that the area is very tourist oriented anymore - if you want to see and hear mariachis - go to the Parian in Tlaquepaque or to one of the many restaurants - Abajeno or Bariachi that are geared to Mariachi entertainment.
