My brother lives lakeside in Ajijic along with 30,000 more gringos. I live in Oaxaca where there are probably less than 1,000 gringos so I was curious to see his home. There are several cities around the lake but Ajijic is one of the best...More

Large lake. Flea markets on the shores are interesting. I might be more interested walking around town and checking out the local life, but the lake itself wasn't really fantastic or anything.

Chapala is an absolute gem! Beautiful lake with plenty to see and do. A walk alongside the lake is a must! Loved the mercado down the little town's "downtown" area. My son even ate fried crickets there!

Visiting the Lake/Guad for 2 weeks early December. How cold does it get typically, what kind of jacket/coats to bring? Also is it too cold at this time to rent a VRBO type house with a pool? We are also interested in checking with a good long term rental agency for future possibilities. referrals welcome. (Many time Mexico visitors, not to this area in 20 years tho)

OOPS. Forgot. Try Caldwell Banker in Chapala for long term rental or I have friends in Centro Historico GDL who have a restored rental property.
