Church charged people to bury their dead. No money, then your loved ones were leaned against the wall and nature took its course. About 3 or 4 dollars to visit here. Worth it.

We were really grossed out by this museum. If looking at crusty dead people is your thing, you will love it. We left after the first room because we both felt nauseous. It’s especially awful seeing the mummified children. Took several beers on the plaza...More

It's a place to see once. Incredible how these natural mummies came to be. A little eerie and sad that these bodies of someone's loved ones are on display.

The tour lasted about an hour. The price of the entrance was 70 pesos. It was an incredible experience listening to the history of these mummies. You can take a bus from the centre of town for 5 pesos per person and from the centre...More

Before going to this museum one should realize that some cultures, like that of Mexico, have a certain fascination with death. With this understanding, it would get more interesting to visit the mummies.

Seems to fit with Mexico's cultural approach to death, and the exhibits are well done. A bit jarring to our (American) sensibilities. The guide and exhibit labels are in Español only, and informative if you're fluent. Wouldn't miss it, but once is enough for us.

We had planned to skip this museum but our host talked us into going and I'm so glad he did. It's small and easy to get to and see everything there is. The mummies are so expressive. Be sure to read about how they were...More

This is an odd museum of mummified bodies that could not be reinterred due to costs. Yes , it is macabre, as the dried up dead includes dead babies, but given the Mexican acceptance of death it is perhaps worth a visit.

This is not a regular museum, you will see people who died in different circumstances and by some reason they are mummified. Ask for the explanation in your language or look for a translator, it is complete different than if you go by yourself. Narrator...More
