One can find a lot of black pottery all over Oaxaca but we found Dona Rosa to have the widest selection in one place at great prices. We bought a number of gift items both for our friends and ourselves. Great folk art as well as pieces which could be used every day.

Don't waste your time visiting Donna Rosa Studio in San Bartolo unless you just want to see historical photos of the late potter who "invented" barre negro. You will find a better and more varied collection in almost any of the galleries or co-op shops in town.

I loved to see the tradition of the grandmother being passed to grandsons. He gave us an explanation, presentation and the history of the 'black barro'. Beautiful pieces of art. Cheap prices.

If you're interested in the crafts of black pottery, that's the place. Many pictures of Doña Rosa meeting different celebrities and politicians are displayed in the walls, her work continues in the family hands. Interesting pieces for very good price.

Nice business with an informative demonstration about how this type of ceramics developed. Many affordable and unique gifts. Make sure that you see who else is in town. Dona Rosa started it and many other artists followed. look around the neighborhood and see who else is throwing pottery.

My friend and I visited with a combination tour and this was one of the places that was part of the tour. If you're interested in pottery, this would be a great place to visit and learn a bit of history, as well as, get a demonstration of historical pottery making. You can also purchase pottery here. They have a... More

I like the big variety that the studio offers, sometimes they have someone making pottery so you can see and learn about the process. And I think it's a cool thing that you can brag at home that you bought from the birth place of this art

Dona Rosa was an original and accomplished ceramic artist. The studio and shop were fascinating ,and there is a history of her and her work in photo's and written articles. It's a very large studio and ceramic sales area with nice pottery to purchase.
