Beautiful church with a big plaza on the side. Try the ice cream shops with the traditional "nieves". Niagara is the best one.

Wonderful church very near from the centre of Oaxaca. Elegant Spanish baroque building with fascinating details and interiors. It is a must to visit it. From the cathedral you can see a part of the city with mountains in the background and the new areal with auditorium.

Beautiful church with lots of gold. We were stunned by the gold until we saw the Zocalo and Santa Domingo Churches. There is an square next to it that sells all kinds of ice cream treats from various vendors and also religious objects.

We always walk to this church and it always seems to have mass going on. the church is worth the extra steps it takes t get there and you can enjoy homemade ice cream when you leave. It also has a small gift shop to the right as you exit.

What makes a visit to this church unique is the vibrant park adjacent to it, which provides a glimpse of locals enjoying a typical snack, local musicians, etc.

The church is another of Oaxaca's beautiful colonial structures, but what makes this one special is the large plaza in front of it, facing another church. In the evening the locals gather here for a stroll, a bite at the food stalls below (have a paleta - a Mexican popsicle!), in the cool breeze, with a beautiful view across the... More

This is a beautiful building, though not any more so than many others like it. For me, the real attraction is the tiny "museum" of gifts people have given to the Basilica. They range from fine art to deeply felt naive works. There are two walls covered floor to ceiling in retablos that can keep me fascinated for hours. I... More

If you walk away from the Zocalo on Calle Independencia you will arrive la Basilica de la Soledad. This church was built between 1682 and 1690 and is a sanctuary given to the Virgen de la Soledad which is the Patroness of the City of Oaxaca. The construction is baroque style and a special characteristic is its low hight, because... More
