An old monastery which contains a worthy museum depicting the history of the people and art of the district. There is a botanical garden at the back of the chuch with great views from the mseum level. The church itself is worth a visit for its decoration and splendour. It stands at the top of a pedestrian street which runs... More

While the outside of this church is fairly standard for Central America, the inside is incredibly beautiful and far exceeds the beauty of most churches in this part of the world. Except for the Vatican, I cannot imagine many other churches throughout the world having this much gold. So don't be satisfied with only seeing the church from the outside... More

We stayed within a block of this church for a week and so passed many times, it was one of the first places to visit when we got here. Having visited many churches in Rome, this church is as beautiful as many of those and even more amazing considering the time and place it was built. Beautifully maintained and wonderful... More

The plaza is a great place to see people passing by, surrounded by stands with local people selling clothing and jewelry. The Museum itself is so interesting - visiting here gave me glimpse into the history of the people and the art of the past. Overlooks the Botanical Garden with fabulous views from the Museum into the gardens. Saturday NIght... More

Take a guide if you can (we did so at our hotel) as he or she will explain the whole story of how and why this temple was built and will guide you around the amazing gold ceilings

There were several weddings going on throughout the day, so that was interesting to see. This place is breathtaking! So much gold, such interesting architecture! The streets around Santo Domingo are more upscale and artsy. Don't miss happy hour at nearby Cocina Bar Agavero!

Stunning church!! They have a museum on the side of the church, which is 70 pesos per person to visit. It is awesome with so many artifacts and history going way back. The painting on the ceilings and some of the doors gives One an idea of its grandeur! Highly recommend!!

Thank Christine S
